Building an email list
I usually spend a good couple of hours a day working through incoming email, and one thing I have noticed is the increased in people or should I say casual acquaintances, emailing me although this is not SPAM as such, I began to wonder at what point it becomes acceptable to add people to your mailing lists.
As an active member of the local business community, I meet new people every day, either in person or online especially on the social networking sites like Linkedin, and Facebook. At this point you have my contact details either from the information stored online or my business card, is it now acceptable to add me to your mailing list?
I would personally say no. It is not. It should be common curtsey to either call, or write an individually personalised email to me, to develop our relationship and introduce me to your services and inform me that you intend to add me to your list, at which point I have the ability to opt out, rather than be assumed to opt-in.
